'Thillalangadi': Three days more

Just few days after it started promotions for 'Thillalangadi', Sun Pictures has announced today that the 'Jayam' Ravi starrer directed by M Raja will be released this Friday (July 23).

Produced by 'Editor' Mohan Jayam Company, the film is a remake of Telugu runaway hit 'Kick', which had Ravi Teja, Ileana and Brahmanandam in lead roles.

While Ravi and Tamannah have replaced Ravi Teja and Ileana respectively, the role played by Brahmanandam is recreated by Vadivelu, which is expected to be one of the highlights of the film.

"Thillalangadi is a light-hearted comedy film till the interval. The twist comes in the second-half where the movie would all of a sudden take off as an action thriller. On the whole, it is going to be a wholesome treat," say sources.

tamanna's Thillalangadi Trailer HQ BY NEVE93

A well deserved century!

On Saturday (July 10), Lingusamys Paiyaa celebrated 100 days run in three Chennai screens.

It is a fantastic century by any yardstick, in these hard days.

Lingusamy and his team deserve a pat on their back for this unique distinction at a time when movies are finding it difficult to run for 10 days! Lingusamy, Yuvan Shankar Raja, Karthi and Tamannaah along with Cloud Nine can take credit for the stupendous success of the film.

Says a leading exhibitor: Paiyaa was a beautiful packaged entertainer from Lingusamy with all essential ingredients that worked with the mass and class audiences. The extra edge was provided by Yuvans music and the romantic chemistry between Karthi and Tamannaah was just perfect.

The trade facts about the film is that it must have cost around Rs 12 crore, but has collected approximately Rs 35 crore from theatricals and other rights. Paiyaa can now be called a blockbuster as it has made three times its investment.

Aravind deep repot

Though media publicized various news about Allu Aravind making use of Tamanna in his next two films (Badrinath and one more with Naga Chaitanya) for a meagre remuneration as per the past agreement settled between the two, here is one more news that Allu Aravind is trying to carve out a new future for Tamanna….

‘Paiyaa’ completes 100 days

Lingusamy’s ‘Paiyaa’ has successfully completed 100 days of run and is still going strong. The youthful road film released on April 2 is one of the few block busters of the year.

‘Paiyaa’ is the first road movie in Tamil deftly handled by Lingusamy. His fast paced narration and the excellent music from Yuvan Shankara Raja made the film shift to top gear at the box office from the second week itself. Yuvan’s songs are still topping the music charts even after 9 weeks.

Karthik scored a hat trick and Tamnnah got her first real hit in ‘Paiyaa’. The chemistry between the lead actors is well noticed by all and they are now considered a popular Jodi preferred by film makers. Cinematography by Madhi and editing by Antony are big strengths of Lingusamy in this film.

Nominations for 57th South Filmfare Awards

Finally the biggest event of this year arrives as the South Indian film celebrities are curiously looking for the big day to bag their honors. Yeah! It’s all about the 57th South Filmfare Awards scheduled to be hosted on August 7. Actress Tamanna was invited to inaugurate the press conference of marking the event.

The nominees for the best actor of Tamil Cinema 2009 are Surya (Ayan), Arya (Naan Kadavul), Prakash Raj (Kanchivaram), Jayam Ravi (Peranmai) and Kamal Hassan (Unnai Pol Oruvan) while the best actress nominees are Tamanna (Kanden Kadhalai), Sneha (Achamundu Achamundu), Pooja (Naan Kadavul), Padmapriya (Pokkisham) and Shreya Reddy (Kanjeevaram).

Meanwhile cherubic Tamanna, who was invited for the press conference of Filmfare Awards, was glad for having nominated for the best actress category in both Tamil and Telugu (Koncham Ishtam Koncham Kashtam) films. Having worked with almost all the young superstars in South Indian film industry, Tamanna mentions that all her co-stars are best in their unique attributes.

THILLALANGADI MUSIC REVIEW

Review by : Malathy Sundaram

Music Director : Yuvan Shankar Raja, Sai Thaman
Vocals : Vijay Prakash, Naveen, Yuvan, Chitra, Shreya Ghosal, Suchitra, Kailash Kher, Ranjith, Simbu, Manasi Scott, Sri Vardhini, Shankar Mahadevan.
Lyrics : Viveka, Na. Muthukumar.

A remake of the 2009 Telugu film ‘Kick’, this movie, produced by Editor Mohan and directed by M. Raja, stars his brother Jayam Ravi, Tamannah, Vadivelu, Prabhu Ganesan, Santhanam, Suhasini Mani Ratnam and others. Thillalangadi is supposed to be an action comedy. Yuvan Shankar Raja and Sai Thaman have together composed the songs for the album. Seven tracks are listed here. With Sun Pictures releasing the movie, there has already been a lot of hype surrounding it.

Ding Ding..
Vocals: Vijay Prakash, Naveen

Lyrics: Viveka

This song is likely to find favor among the young ones for its amusing lyrics which almost beg the ladylove to act pricey and stiff to add thrill to the wooing game! The neat string bits and bright, foot-tapping rhythms also up the charm quotient of this number which vaguely glides over Mohanam and Bilahari ragas.

Thillalangadi

Sol Pecchu Ketkaatha...
Vocals: Yuvan, Chitra, Shreya Ghosal

Lyrics: Na. Muthukumar

The airy flute bits, guitars and keyboard notes in Natabairavi raga guide this song which is based on jaunty rhythms. Pleasant singing from both the ladies, but one wishes the background music had been a little muted.

Pootta Parthadhum
...
Vocals: Suchitra

Lyrics: Viveka
Music: S. Thaman

Ah! The mandatory ‘arm-flexing’ number that serves to project the larger-than-life image of the hero. Can leave even James Bond cringing! All the heavy build-up in the form of thundering guitars, drums and chorus end up as slightly comical, but you have to admit that the song has been differently conceived.

Memory Loss...
Vocals: Kailash Kher, Ranjith

Lyrics: Viveka

A song that revels in its own irrelevance! Obviously, a song of drunken revelry, it has a tinge of amusement to it and Kailash Kher brings a feisty ‘folk’ effect to the whole thing. Tabla and dholak(?) add their bit too. Can take off depending on the picturization. The song touches upon Manirangu raga, but one can’t be sure.

Pattu Pattu...
Vocals: Simbu, Manasi Scott

Lyrics: Na. Muthukumar

A spunky dance number with quite a bit of synthesized sounds thrown in, but the background music just stops short of cacophony. Could be liked for the lively rendering of both the singers.

Idhayam Karaigiradhe...
Vocals: Sri Vardhini

Lyrics: Viveka

Music: S. Thaman

A short and really sweet number, with hollow drums and a muted voice adding delight. Could jump on to the charts for its simple melody

Thothu Ponen...
Vocals: Shankar Mahadevan

Lyrics: Viveka

Mmm… an interesting thought here, which exhorts you to embrace and celebrate defeat, as it is a bigger teacher than victory. Vettri kooda vengayam dhaan jeyicchu paarthaa’ is an amusing line. Some exquisite rhythm arrangement and Shankar Mahadevan’s voice add richness. Songs 5, 6 and 7 seem to be based on the Karaharapriya scale. The ‘ga ri ri sa’ phrase is used attractively.

Verdict:

Thaman’s music adds a refreshing touch to the other songs. The songs are clearly meant for the youth brigade, and may need strong support from the movie itself to take off (like ‘Paiyaa’ numbers). Otherwise they may just create a momentary splash. But this is certainly a lively album.

Thillalangadi – Movie Preview

Embarking on their venture together with Jayam filmmaker Raja, actor Ravi and their father Mohan have been having a great time in showbiz. With all their remakes – Jayam, M Kumaran S/o Mahalakshmi, Something Something Unnakum Enakkum and Santhosh Subramaniam becoming blockbusters, they are now all set for their next remake Thillalangadi. The film started its rolling in August 2009 and has been shot across Malaysia and various parts of Chennai. It has been completed in a span of 115 days. The original version Kick had Ileana taking on the female lead and since she had already signed many Telugu projects, the actress couldn’t act in this remake. Finally, Tamanna Bhatia was offered the role while Shaam has been roped in to play the same role he enacted in Telugu.

Well, for the first time we’ll get to see the comedy kings Vadivelu and Santhanam together tickling our funny bones.

The film opens with Shaam flying down to Malaysia for two reasons: to meet his fiancée (Tamanna) and to trap a criminal, who has been carrying on every heist brilliantly. Meanwhile Tamanna is sharing her past bitter experiences with Shaam, about with her ex-boyfriend (Jayam Ravi), that takes us to a first half with a flashback. Shaam now takes time out to hunt for the thief. He gets a surprise when Tamanna’s ex-boyfriend turns out to be the thief. Rest of the film is about a funny cat-and-mouse game that brims with fun, frolic, action and adventure.

Since Thamman has already replicated the tunes of Kick for his upcoming Tamil film Moscowin Kaveri, the producers opted for Yuvan Shankar. Rajashekar has handled the cinematography and Rocky Rajesh has choreographed the stunts.

A grand set of football stadium was erected at Prasad Studios, which actually marks the reintroduction of Ravi in this film. According to the sources, the songs of this album have been shot at a cost of Rs 2.5 Crores.Sun Pictures has decided to release the film with additional prints on July 23.

“KAJAL IS BETTER THAN TAMANNAH”, SAYS KARTHI

Karthi’s Paiyaa with Tamannah was a huge success and the actor is already expecting his next film Naan Mahaan Alla to hit the screens soon. His star status is catapulting several notches up with each of his film’s release and the actor is quite happy with the end results.

For NMA, Karthi’s love-interest is Kajal Agarwal. During a recent press meet, Karthi was asked which of the two actresses – Kajal and Tamannah – he considered to be the most beautiful. The actor in his own sense of humor replied that Kajal is taller than Tamannah and has large eyes, which is much better than Tamannah’s.

‘I am clear about my limits’

There's something infectious about all the roles that actress Tamannah has portrayed.

A talkative and hyper active girl in Kandain Kadhalai; a youngster madly in love with her dog who goes hysterical when her pet goes missing in Sura; or a simple but glamourous girl in Ayan, Tamannah can never be ignored when it comes to the characters she has essayed.

This compulsive gymmer, who just has to set apart a few hours everyday to burn her calories, has set certain standards for herself. She is not one of those new kids on the block willing to bare all to soar to instant fame. She is clear that she will not do certain scenes and makes sure she conveys the same to the director as well. She was opposed to a kissing scene in Kandain Kadhalai and only after the director agreed to remove the scene, did she decide to go ahead with the movie. "Some people maybe comfortable doing hot scenes and those that demand the actress to bare all but I am clear about my limits and will not exceed those," Tamannah told Metrolife.

This young lady in her early twenties confesses that she always wanted to become an actress, “As a five-year-old it always intrigued me how Madhuri Dixit or Karisma Kapoor could sing and dance so well and even cry so easily,” she says. She worked on her body and always took that extra effort to tone it up.

Tamannah isn’t choosy about her roles but says that high emotional drama excites her.
“A movie that the masses can relate to fascinates me. There isn’t anything great about Kuch Kuch Hota Hai but there’s some magic about the movie and has a theme that stays with you. It’s truly touching," she says.

Five years into acting and Tamannah is all set to dub for her next few films, “It did take me a while to learn Tamil and Telugu but now I’m ready to dub. That’s something I am excited about,” she says.

This North Indian, who has lived in Mumbai for most of her life, says she got some of the best offers from Tamil and Telugu industry.
“The roles were meaty and I thought I would settle here first, make a mark and then explore,” she says.

Commenting about pair offs, she says it’s not possible to keep an actor’s life under wraps.

People are curious to know what their favourite actor or actress is upto, “An actor’s life is like an open book. You just have to get used to media intrusion and hounding fans,” she avers. Talking about the characters that have remained with her, she says her role in Paiyya is something that’s a lot like the person she is in real.

And Kandain Kadhalai is another one of her favourites. She will soon be seen in Thillalangidi with Ravi Teja.

Tamannah-Simbu to pair up in Lingusamy’s forthcoming flick Tamannah-Simbu in Lingusamy’s next

Silambarasan has committed two films simultaneously after ‘VTV’. One is the film in which he pairs opposite Sarath Kumar's daughter Varalaxmi and the other being Lingusamy’s film.

Lingusamy film is a bi-lingual in Tamil and Telugu. Buzz is that Tamannah has been asked to give 25 days successively for the film. Tamannah plays a law college student and she has also been asked to lose some weight and get fit for the role. Lingusamy's associates say Simbu-Tamanna pair will be as much talked about as Simbu-Trisha jodi in ‘VTV’.

Tamannah also has an author backed role which has more emotions than dialogues we hear. She will have just two pages of words to be spoken in the entire film and you will see a new Tamannah.

For the important role of Tamannah's brother in the film Lingusamy tried Madhavan and is still waiting for his answer. If Madhavan rejects the role, Lingusamy may rope in Ajmal.

Tamannaah in Lingusamy's next

After the super hit of his Paiyaa, popular Tamil director Lingusamy is now gearing up to commence production of his seventh directorial venture, a Tamil-Telugu bilingual.

In a recent interview, Lingusamy confirmed: "It will be a bilingual with Silambarasan in the Tamil version and Mahesh Babu in the Telugu version. Dhayanidhi Alagiri will be the producer of the Tamil version, while Tirupati Prasad of Mega Supergood Films will produce the Telugu version. The Tamil version will start rolling in July after Simbu completes the first schedule of Poda Podi, while the Telugu version will commence by September."

Currently, the director is busy completing the script. The latest buzz is that gorgeous Tamannaah will play the female lead in the Tamil version. It would be interesting to watch the on screen chemistry of Simbu and Tamannaah.

There are also reports that the director is trying to rope in Madhavan to play a prominent role (as Tamannaah's brother) in the film. Official confirmation is expected soon!

SILAMBARASAN DECIDES ON TAMANNAH

Silambarasan is all set to begin work for the Lingusamy project, which is touted to be a bilingual. The Telugu version will have Mahesh Babu playing the lead; it was disclosed a few days ago.

If reports are to be believed, Tamannah could be paired up with Silambarasan in this film. She is a strong contender for the role, but sources close to the actress say that there could be a call sheet problem, which needs to be sorted out. This will be the first time Tamannah will pair up with Silambarsan, if the lady agrees to star in this film.

Naga Chaitanya-Tamanna movie

Naga Chaitanya-Tamanna movie

Naga Chaitanya-Tamanna starer untitled movie was launched at a Annapoorna Studios yesterday(June 7), Hyderabad. Nagababu switched on the camera, Nagarjuna tapped the clapboard and SS Rajamouli directed the first scene. ANR, Allu Aravind, K Raghavendra Rao and other noted celebrities graced the occasion.

The movie is directed by Sukumar and the director has said thats the movie a romantic entertainer. The movie is produced by Allu Aravind under the banner Geetha Arts. Devi Sri Prasad will score the music and the other details are under wraps.

Naga Chaitanya and Tamanna is working with Sukumar for the first time. Interestingly Tamanna is doing simultaneously two projects for Geetha Arts including Allu Arjun starer Badrinath.

Tamannah's Concern

It looks like Tamannah is not a very convincing liar. Only a few days ago, when Sura flopped at the box office, she told the audience and the press that she rarely looked back on her films, and moved on to the next ones. But in recent days, it looks like Sura?s failure has really moved the actress, who did the 50th film of Vijay with the star.

The actress has been on the hit bandwagon for the last few years, and has become one of the biggest successes in the Tamil film industry. But she has been very worried about the lack of response in the Tamil film industry and the steady failures which seem to plague Vijay currently.

She told the press that she had expected Sura to do better, much better than the poor performance which was seen. She said that she wanted Vijay?s 50th film to be a box office success, and it was a bad thing to happen to such a prominent actor.

She however also told the press that she was looking forward, instead of regretting further. But she was concerned about Vijay and his work. Tamannah would be soon seen in a Jayam Ravi film Thillalangadi.

'Sura' shocks Tamannah

If there is one person who is more worried about Sura's poor performance in the box office than anyone else, it could apparently be Tamannah, the heroine of Vijay's 50th film.

For the petite actress, who had been part of super hits for the past couple of years ('Ayan', 'Padikadhavan', 'Kanden Kadhalai', 'Paiyaa' etc), tasted failure for the first time thanks to the movie's dismal show.

"I expected ‘Sura’ to do well. But now I understand it's very difficult to judge a film while it's being made. Ultimately, everything depends on audience acceptance," she says.

However, putting aside the film's failure, Tamannah is now looking forward for positive things to happen. "I am eagerly expecting the release of ‘Jayam’ Ravi starrer ‘Thillalangadi’ which I expect to become a blockbuster. Because, it is already a huge hit in Telugu."

15 JAYAM RAVIS AND 5 TAMANNAHS

Press meet of Thillalangadi, the remake of Telugu Kick was held at Four Frames preview theatre in Chennai this morning which was addressed by the director of the film Jayam Raja. While talking to the media, Raja shared many an interesting trivia about the film. He said that 95% of the film is completed with just a song and a few talkie portions pending. The film will be an April release coinciding with the summer vacation. Milan who was in charge of sets in Billa has worked in Thillalangadi too which demanded almost five times more work than Billa.

The specialty of Thillalangadi is that a unique song was shot using Nero motion control camera with 360 degree angle, the hiring cost of the camera alone is close to 2.5 lakhs per day. Scott from Malaysia was specially flown in to handle this camera. There would be 15 Jayam Ravis and 5 Tamannahs in different get ups in this scene. He said that it took them around 45 hours to shoot just this song sequence alone. The song ‘sol pechu kekkaadha sundari’ would surely be the highlight of the film which would find its top place in all the television channels. To a question on why so much of time and effort should go in to can just a song sequence, Raja said that songs are the pillars in a film which make a positive difference to entire viewing. He added that this is the first time that such a specialized technique was used to picturize a sequence in Tamil cinema.

When hero Ravi spoke he said that his brother is such a task master when it comes to extracting work from him and one sequence would be too demanding in every film for him under his brother’s direction but that would turn out to be the highlight of the film. While giving examples, Ravi quoted the boxing sequence in M Kumaran S/O Mahalakshmi, the final moving altercation between the father and son in Santosh Subramanian and the cow cleaning scene in Unakkum Enakkum. In a similar vein, this 360 degree song sequence would be a major hit in Thillalangadi, Ravi added.

Nag Chaitanya and Tamanna film

Catch the glimpses of Nag Chaitanya and Tamanna film, directed by Sukumar and produced by Allu Arvind’s Geetha Arts. Naga Chaitanya, Tamanna are going cast in Bava-Maradallu in the film it seems. And the film is tipped to be a romantic love story. The film was officially launched today at the Annapurna Studious.

Post ‘Ye Maya Chesave’, Nag Chaitanya is now flooded with several scripts and he’s basking on the success, while Tamanna on the other hand, has gained star status in Tamil and Telugu. She has also signed another film under Geetha Arts – Allu Arjun and VV Vinayak film.

Tamannaah denies doing Malayalam film!

It was reported in a section of the media that Tamannaah is going to do a Malayalam film opposite Mohanlal.

But sources close to the actress who is currently holidaying in US say that there is no truth in it.

As per the report which first appeared in Malayalam press, Tamannaah has been paid a bomb to be Mohanlal’s heroine in an Anil directed film.

The shoot of the film was to start in September, with noted cameraman Jayanan Vincent as the cinematographer.

However a source close to Tammmu said: “ Tamannaah is the busiest actress down south, and after she comes back from her holiday, she has to start work on four films. She has two in Tamil with Dhanush and Karthi and two in Telugu with Allu Arjun and Nag Chaitanya. Where does she have time to do a Malayalam film?”

Naga Chaitanya-Tamanna movie launched

A new untitled film, starring Naga Chaitanya and Tamannaah in the lead roles, under the direction of Sukumar with Bunny Vasu as producer on Geetha Arts banner was launched at Annapoorna Studios, Hyderabad. Allu Arvind is the presenter.

Ace producer Dr D Ramanaidu rendered the puja ceremony, while Nagababu switched on the camera and Nagarjuna clapped the muhurat shot. The formal first shot direction was done by SS Rajamouli. Akkineni Nageswara Rao handed over the script to the director.

Allu Arvind said: “I heard the subject the present film two and half years ago. Whatever subject that Sukumar would make ready, he would first narrate it to me. So, I heard it even before Arya. I thought that the film required huge budgeting. So, after the release of Arya 2, the subject was further shaped up. I like Sukumar so much, because he would keep five scenes alternatively. We thought that the film would be nice if we could rope in Naga Chaitanya. Actually, we thought of Tamannaah as heroine for Maghadeera, but it didn’t materialize for her. Coming to our banner, it is not a new experience for Geetha Arts to do films with other heroes. Naga Chaitanya is a very talented hero.”

Naga Chaitanya said: “I am happy to be doing a film with Geetha Arts. There are highly experienced technicians. I don’t need to say much about Sukumar, who is known for his dedication to the profession. I thought that my third film should be a full-fledged action entertainer. But, after listening to the story, I changed my preference. Anyways, this film will also have its action-part.”

Tamannaah said: “After a gap of one year, I am doing this straight film in Telugu. Mine is a performance-oriented role.” Sukumar said: “It has become my duty to narrate all of my scripts first to Allu Arvind. This subject is not a tailor-made one for any hero. But, I did Arya-2 keeping in mind Allu Arjun. The performance of Naga Chaitanya in Ye Maya Chesave was superb, and this prompted us to rope him in. It is a romantic action film. Devi Sri Prasad’s music would be a great highlight.”

Bunny Vasu said: “Though we thought of doing it with Bunny (Allu Arjun), we changed the option with everybody unanimously saying that it would be apt for Naga Chaitanya.”

Story is by Chandra Sekhar T Ramesh; Cinematography is by Prasad; screenplay by Hari Prasad. Direction is by Sukumar. Music by Devi Sri Prasad.
