'Thillalangadi': Three days more

Just few days after it started promotions for 'Thillalangadi', Sun Pictures has announced today that the 'Jayam' Ravi starrer directed by M Raja will be released this Friday (July 23).

Produced by 'Editor' Mohan Jayam Company, the film is a remake of Telugu runaway hit 'Kick', which had Ravi Teja, Ileana and Brahmanandam in lead roles.

While Ravi and Tamannah have replaced Ravi Teja and Ileana respectively, the role played by Brahmanandam is recreated by Vadivelu, which is expected to be one of the highlights of the film.

"Thillalangadi is a light-hearted comedy film till the interval. The twist comes in the second-half where the movie would all of a sudden take off as an action thriller. On the whole, it is going to be a wholesome treat," say sources.

A well deserved century!

On Saturday (July 10), Lingusamys Paiyaa celebrated 100 days run in three Chennai screens.

It is a fantastic century by any yardstick, in these hard days.

Lingusamy and his team deserve a pat on their back for this unique distinction at a time when movies are finding it difficult to run for 10 days! Lingusamy, Yuvan Shankar Raja, Karthi and Tamannaah along with Cloud Nine can take credit for the stupendous success of the film.

Says a leading exhibitor: Paiyaa was a beautiful packaged entertainer from Lingusamy with all essential ingredients that worked with the mass and class audiences. The extra edge was provided by Yuvans music and the romantic chemistry between Karthi and Tamannaah was just perfect.

The trade facts about the film is that it must have cost around Rs 12 crore, but has collected approximately Rs 35 crore from theatricals and other rights. Paiyaa can now be called a blockbuster as it has made three times its investment.

Aravind deep repot

Though media publicized various news about Allu Aravind making use of Tamanna in his next two films (Badrinath and one more with Naga Chaitanya) for a meagre remuneration as per the past agreement settled between the two, here is one more news that Allu Aravind is trying to carve out a new future for Tamanna….

‘Paiyaa’ completes 100 days

Lingusamy’s ‘Paiyaa’ has successfully completed 100 days of run and is still going strong. The youthful road film released on April 2 is one of the few block busters of the year.

‘Paiyaa’ is the first road movie in Tamil deftly handled by Lingusamy. His fast paced narration and the excellent music from Yuvan Shankara Raja made the film shift to top gear at the box office from the second week itself. Yuvan’s songs are still topping the music charts even after 9 weeks.

Karthik scored a hat trick and Tamnnah got her first real hit in ‘Paiyaa’. The chemistry between the lead actors is well noticed by all and they are now considered a popular Jodi preferred by film makers. Cinematography by Madhi and editing by Antony are big strengths of Lingusamy in this film.

Nominations for 57th South Filmfare Awards

Finally the biggest event of this year arrives as the South Indian film celebrities are curiously looking for the big day to bag their honors. Yeah! It’s all about the 57th South Filmfare Awards scheduled to be hosted on August 7. Actress Tamanna was invited to inaugurate the press conference of marking the event.

The nominees for the best actor of Tamil Cinema 2009 are Surya (Ayan), Arya (Naan Kadavul), Prakash Raj (Kanchivaram), Jayam Ravi (Peranmai) and Kamal Hassan (Unnai Pol Oruvan) while the best actress nominees are Tamanna (Kanden Kadhalai), Sneha (Achamundu Achamundu), Pooja (Naan Kadavul), Padmapriya (Pokkisham) and Shreya Reddy (Kanjeevaram).

Meanwhile cherubic Tamanna, who was invited for the press conference of Filmfare Awards, was glad for having nominated for the best actress category in both Tamil and Telugu (Koncham Ishtam Koncham Kashtam) films. Having worked with almost all the young superstars in South Indian film industry, Tamanna mentions that all her co-stars are best in their unique attributes.

THILLALANGADI MUSIC REVIEW

Review by : Malathy Sundaram

Music Director : Yuvan Shankar Raja, Sai Thaman
Vocals : Vijay Prakash, Naveen, Yuvan, Chitra, Shreya Ghosal, Suchitra, Kailash Kher, Ranjith, Simbu, Manasi Scott, Sri Vardhini, Shankar Mahadevan.
Lyrics : Viveka, Na. Muthukumar.

A remake of the 2009 Telugu film ‘Kick’, this movie, produced by Editor Mohan and directed by M. Raja, stars his brother Jayam Ravi, Tamannah, Vadivelu, Prabhu Ganesan, Santhanam, Suhasini Mani Ratnam and others. Thillalangadi is supposed to be an action comedy. Yuvan Shankar Raja and Sai Thaman have together composed the songs for the album. Seven tracks are listed here. With Sun Pictures releasing the movie, there has already been a lot of hype surrounding it.

Ding Ding..
Vocals: Vijay Prakash, Naveen

Lyrics: Viveka

This song is likely to find favor among the young ones for its amusing lyrics which almost beg the ladylove to act pricey and stiff to add thrill to the wooing game! The neat string bits and bright, foot-tapping rhythms also up the charm quotient of this number which vaguely glides over Mohanam and Bilahari ragas.

Thillalangadi

Sol Pecchu Ketkaatha...
Vocals: Yuvan, Chitra, Shreya Ghosal

Lyrics: Na. Muthukumar

The airy flute bits, guitars and keyboard notes in Natabairavi raga guide this song which is based on jaunty rhythms. Pleasant singing from both the ladies, but one wishes the background music had been a little muted.

Pootta Parthadhum
...
Vocals: Suchitra

Lyrics: Viveka
Music: S. Thaman

Ah! The mandatory ‘arm-flexing’ number that serves to project the larger-than-life image of the hero. Can leave even James Bond cringing! All the heavy build-up in the form of thundering guitars, drums and chorus end up as slightly comical, but you have to admit that the song has been differently conceived.

Memory Loss...
Vocals: Kailash Kher, Ranjith

Lyrics: Viveka

A song that revels in its own irrelevance! Obviously, a song of drunken revelry, it has a tinge of amusement to it and Kailash Kher brings a feisty ‘folk’ effect to the whole thing. Tabla and dholak(?) add their bit too. Can take off depending on the picturization. The song touches upon Manirangu raga, but one can’t be sure.

Pattu Pattu...
Vocals: Simbu, Manasi Scott

Lyrics: Na. Muthukumar

A spunky dance number with quite a bit of synthesized sounds thrown in, but the background music just stops short of cacophony. Could be liked for the lively rendering of both the singers.

Idhayam Karaigiradhe...
Vocals: Sri Vardhini

Lyrics: Viveka

Music: S. Thaman

A short and really sweet number, with hollow drums and a muted voice adding delight. Could jump on to the charts for its simple melody

Thothu Ponen...
Vocals: Shankar Mahadevan

Lyrics: Viveka

Mmm… an interesting thought here, which exhorts you to embrace and celebrate defeat, as it is a bigger teacher than victory. Vettri kooda vengayam dhaan jeyicchu paarthaa’ is an amusing line. Some exquisite rhythm arrangement and Shankar Mahadevan’s voice add richness. Songs 5, 6 and 7 seem to be based on the Karaharapriya scale. The ‘ga ri ri sa’ phrase is used attractively.

Verdict:

Thaman’s music adds a refreshing touch to the other songs. The songs are clearly meant for the youth brigade, and may need strong support from the movie itself to take off (like ‘Paiyaa’ numbers). Otherwise they may just create a momentary splash. But this is certainly a lively album.

Thillalangadi – Movie Preview

Embarking on their venture together with Jayam filmmaker Raja, actor Ravi and their father Mohan have been having a great time in showbiz. With all their remakes – Jayam, M Kumaran S/o Mahalakshmi, Something Something Unnakum Enakkum and Santhosh Subramaniam becoming blockbusters, they are now all set for their next remake Thillalangadi. The film started its rolling in August 2009 and has been shot across Malaysia and various parts of Chennai. It has been completed in a span of 115 days. The original version Kick had Ileana taking on the female lead and since she had already signed many Telugu projects, the actress couldn’t act in this remake. Finally, Tamanna Bhatia was offered the role while Shaam has been roped in to play the same role he enacted in Telugu.

Well, for the first time we’ll get to see the comedy kings Vadivelu and Santhanam together tickling our funny bones.

The film opens with Shaam flying down to Malaysia for two reasons: to meet his fiancĂ©e (Tamanna) and to trap a criminal, who has been carrying on every heist brilliantly. Meanwhile Tamanna is sharing her past bitter experiences with Shaam, about with her ex-boyfriend (Jayam Ravi), that takes us to a first half with a flashback. Shaam now takes time out to hunt for the thief. He gets a surprise when Tamanna’s ex-boyfriend turns out to be the thief. Rest of the film is about a funny cat-and-mouse game that brims with fun, frolic, action and adventure.

Since Thamman has already replicated the tunes of Kick for his upcoming Tamil film Moscowin Kaveri, the producers opted for Yuvan Shankar. Rajashekar has handled the cinematography and Rocky Rajesh has choreographed the stunts.

A grand set of football stadium was erected at Prasad Studios, which actually marks the reintroduction of Ravi in this film. According to the sources, the songs of this album have been shot at a cost of Rs 2.5 Crores.Sun Pictures has decided to release the film with additional prints on July 23.
